Machine Tattoos
|
| |
As you have read earlier,
bamboo tattoos are my big hobby. But I also like to apply tattoos by machine (often called gun). The advantage of getting a tattoo done by machine over
by hand (bamboo), is the speed. A machine goes faster with up to 3,000 punctures per minute.
How does a tattoo machine work?
An electrically powered tattoo machine resembles and sounds like a dentist drill. It moves
a needle up and down to puncture the skin between 50 and 3000 times per minute.
The needle penetrates the skin by about a milimeter and deposits a drop of insoluble ink into the skin with each puncture.
A tattoo machine creates a punture wound every time it injects a drop of ink into the skin.
Since any puncture wound has the potential for infection and disease transmission, much of the process focusses on safety.

This means I use sterilisation, disposable materials and hand sanitation
to protect you. Some bleeding always occurs, but most stops within a few minutes.

After having applied the tattoo,
I wil cover the tattoo in vaseline and with a bandage. You can remove these after about five hours.
You wash of the tattoo with clean water and a gentle soap. The skin will be sensative, so the water can not be too warm.
When it is completely free of vaseline and fully dry, you add some bacitracin which protects and helps the heeling process.
For five days you wash the tattoo a few times a day and apply bacitracin afterwards.
Keep it out of the sun, don't submerge it in water, so no swimming or scuba diving,
and try to reduce the amount of friction.
After that: enjoy your piece of art!
